Our Horses
Benji
Benji came to us from a farm in Northwestern WI. He stands about 14.1 HH and has a very friendly personality. He loves people and would rather have someone close by and touching him rather than be alone. he is the “people horse” of the group. He is a very good boy and has become a great asset to our program. will follow you around everywhere. We look forward to Benji’s becoming an intracule part of our program.
Boone
Boone came to us from Southern Minnesota. He is a striking 16.2 Chestnut Warmblood who carries himself in a very Regal Manner. He loves people and would rather have someone close by and touching him rather than be alone. Boone has big motion when he moves and his rider feels as tho they are floating thru the air. He lacks a little in patience when asked to stand by the wall but that is because he is the “people horse” of the group. He is a very good boy and has become a great asset to our program.
Ed
-day trialEd is an Appaloosa gelding and stands right at 14HH. His small yet stout stature makes him an excellent candidate for our smaller more involved riders. Ed is owned by Aggie Stroot and is on a long-term lease to90-day trial period with our program. During this time we will be watching to see if he is going to enjoy the job we ask him to perform. Ed has some visual challenges and will be able to relate to some of the challenges our riders face. We’ll be watching for Ed, in many ways, as he progresses in his learning period.
Jay
Jay is a Rocky Mountain breed gelding. Here is a little bit more about the breed. The Rocky Mountain Horse exhibits a natural ambling gait, called the single-foot, which replaces the trot seen in a majority of horse breeds. The extra footfalls provide additional smoothness to a rider because the horse always has at least one foot on the ground. This minimizes movement of the horse’s topline and removes the bounce of a two-beat gait, caused by a moment of suspension followed by the jolt of two feet hitting the ground as the horse shifts from one pair of legs to the other. Jay is owned by Collette Dalquist and is on a long-term lease to our program. The Chiropractor indicated he is a “young 19-year-old” which is a good thing to hear! He has been dubbed “black beauty” by some of his riders.
Lacey
Lacey was purchased from a family located near Bagley, MN. She had been with the family since she was born and was loved by all. The focus of trail riding changed for the family so they wanted to find a good home where Lacey would be loved and have a great job. She found that very home with Mounted Eagles. We are looking forward to a long happy relationship with Lacey and our riders.
Lilly
Lilly was purchased from Allison Kempen who lives in Kennan Wisconsin. She has had Lilly for a number of years and felt she needed a new job since Allison didn’t have enough time to spend with her. Lilly’s a bit of a ‘firecracker” when you’re lunging her and warming her up for lessons but just as soon as one of our riders hits her back, she drops her head and gives them the kind of ride they can handle. She sports a flashy blond mane and tail and sometimes it’s hard to recognize whether she is Cami or Lilly. They are so much alike in appearance and size. Lilly’s a little heftier and will be responsible for carrying our riders who weigh up to 175 lbs. She actively started her job in January of 2011 and seems to be enjoying her new life, her new home and all of her new friends.
Milo
Milo was purchased from a family in Crary, ND. He is adjusting to his new life at Mounted Eagles and is becoming one of the favorites of the riders.
Woody & Ace
Woody and Ace are Equicizers and joined Mounted Eagles in Feb 2016. We were able to purchase them through a generous grant from the Gessner-Johnson Foundation.
Ace, the Bay, is named in honor of our beloved Ace who served in the program for 9 years and left us for those greener pastures in the sky in April 2015. The new Ace sports a sweet little “heart” on his forehead to honor the huge heart that Ace had for the program participants. He will forever remain in our hearts as well.
Woody, the Buckskin, was named by the program participants at the annual Awards Banquet. Woody was a very popular name suggestion and won by a landslide. He will be a real asset to the program too!
Woody and Ace will be the main modality of services for those individuals who join our program who cannot for some reason interact with the real horses. They will also be intertwined into the lesson plans of all other riders so they can learn more in a different setting. The use of the Equicizers will help our participants enhance their balance, gain muscle strength, work on hand coordination and many other actions they might find difficult to achieve.
