Sometimes It’s Not All About Riding

Situations arise at times when we are unable to ride our horses during our lessons. That’s when we do Ground Work! This involves spending time with the horses other than riding them. These sessions can be made up of grooming, leading, or playing games with or without the horses. Every lesson is created to include some form of equine related subject matter. The participants get a lot of benefit from these types of lessons. The activities include, to name a few, physical motivation, gross and fine motor skills, tactile challenges, engaging with other riders and one on one time with volunteers.

The horses and the program participants seem to enjoy these days together. So when you hear “We will be doing Ground Work”, please don’t think it’s a day to not come. It’s a day that will be of great benefit and enjoyment to all involved. Because sometimes, It’s Not Always About Riding.

If you have questions or want more information about our Ground Lessons, please feel free to reach out to Nikki, our Center Manager and Lead Instructor. She will be happy to clarify any misgivings you may have about the benefit of these lessons.
