Mounted eagles would never exist if it wasn’t for wonderful people volunteering their time. More than 20,000 people volunteer their time at PATH Intl. centers each year. There are a number of ways that volunteers assist. Some apply their horsemanship skills in the arena, while others who aren’t experienced with horses perform other duties that ultimately benefit the center’s riders.
Volunteers are needed to assist in these ways:
- Leading the horse
- Sidewalking (walking alongside the horse to offer the rider support when needed)
- Grooming horses
- Tacking up horses
- Cleaning tack
- Helping with fund-raisers
- Serving on a Committee
- Photography
- Providing Horse Enrichment Activities
- Barn Host/Greeter
- Serve on the Board of Directors
Most centers work with volunteers who are 14 years of age and older. However, children younger than 14 who have a strong horsemanship background are often considered.
By volunteering, you can learn about the many types of challenges individuals face, how horses interact to assist with these challenges and make new friends. You’ll gain tremendous satisfaction from watching your riders improve physically, mentally and emotionally. But most of all, you will be making life brighter for individuals with special needs. Regardless of where you live, there is surely a PATH Intl. center that will welcome you.
