Breed: Belgian
Color: Blonde
Age: Born in 1993
Sex: Gelding
Joined Mounted Eagles: 2008

“Earl the Pearl” is a 15 year old blonde Belgian who is as smooth and shiny as a pearl. He’s not a “dingie blonde” either, so no ‘blonde jokes’ fit him at all! He comes to us from Hill City where he was owned by a lady who had to have brain surgery several years ago and had to learn to walk, talk etc all over again. She loved to ride and she knows what riding a horse can do for balance issues. She bought Earl and says he has helped her feel more secure when riding and she trusts him completely. Earl also has experience pulling wagons and loves the trail. As with lots of families, our children come first so mom has to concentrate on the girls and their horse needs now so Earl had to find a new home. It was as if God put us together, knowing that we at Mounted Eagles needed another stout horse to give Bill a break from carrying all of our heavier more un-balanced riders and Earl needing a new home.

Breed: Arabian
Color: Gray
Age: Born in 2002
Sex: Mare
Joined Mounted Eagles: October 2007

Rosie was donated to us by a loving couple from Milaca who knew she would be a perfect fit for our program. They were right! She is a very young but sensible little mare who is just a ‘peach’. She carries our smaller to medium sized riders and enjoys every minute of it. She’s so cute – they all just love her! Thanks for giving her to us, Cindy and Jim, our riders are very blessed to have her as a part of their lives.

Breed: Arabian
Color: Bay
Age: Born in 1992
Sex: Male-Gelding
Joined Mounted Eagles: July 2006

Ace was donated to the program and is a former Endurance Runner. After he received a slight injury to his ankle, his previous owner felt she should not ask him to run the long races any more. She wanted him to be doing something that would make him feel like he was needed and to be where he would be helping others. He is quiet natured and very patient. His ankle is just fine but Just don’t touch his ears! : -) He’s pretty sensitive around those ears and would just as soon you not bother them. He loves his job at the Mounted Eagles and has quickly become one of the favorites for new riders.

Pepper

Breed: Appaloosa
Color: Leopard/Blue Roan
Age: Born in 1990
Sex: Mare
Joined Mounted Eagles: August 1994

Pepper has been with the program the longest and she is near and dear to the hearts of many of the riders and volunteers. She’s steady and can present a challenge to the rider appropriate to his/her limitations. She just seems to know the difference. Pepper loves the riders and what she does at ME.

Velvet

Breed: Shetland Pony
Color: Black
Age: Born in 1986
Sex: Mare
Joined Mounted Eagles: July 2001

Velvet became a member of the Mounted Eagles as a result of one of our riders “outgrowing her”.  He had owned her for many years and wanted her to have a good home where he could still visit with her often.  ME was the perfect place.  She’s still with us taking our “little ones” carefully around the arena with her quick little legs going at top walking speed.  People think big horses walk fast – but little Velvet can pass most of them up on any given day.  Her previous owner still rides every week so they are both living their dream.

Breed: Tennessee Walking Horse
Color: Tobiano (Black & White)
Age: Born in 1994
Sex: Male-Gelding
Joined Mounted Eagles: Dec 2004

A wonderful woman who has since become a great volunteer and a mentor for the Mounted Eagles donated Wind Dancer to us.  She wanted him to have a home where he could enjoy what he does and use his talents to help people.  He is most gentle and caring when he carries the little riders bareback.  He seems to love the feel of their little bodies on his back with their bare feet and hands against his coat.  His head drops, his gait slows and he listens intently with both ears.  This is where Wind Dancer excels and you can see it in his expressions.
